All students and staff are expected to uphold high standards of conduct and appearance. Clothing should be suitable and comfortable for normal school activities and should reflect the respect, pride and standards of the community. The student's clothing and appearance should not be of such extreme that it draws undue attention to the student nor should his/her clothing and appearance detract or interfere with the teaching and learning in the classroom. These guidelines apply to all students at all times and are designed so that students are safe and focused on learning throughout the day. There are no exceptions.
General clothing standards for all children require that shoes must be worn at all times with appropriate socks or stockings.
The following items are not allowed to be worn at school:
- Open-toed sandals, backless shoes, flip flops, slippers, high heel shoes and shoes with wheels
Bare midriff or "low cut" tops, blouses, shirts
- Pajamas
- Mini shorts / skirts / skorts (
Blouses or tops with straps smaller than one inch wide
Many of the above items can be hazardous during normal activities on the blacktop, field or playground.
Students who wear inappropriate clothing or have inappropriate accessories will be sent to the office to call home for a change of clothing. Inappropriate items will be confiscated by the teacher, the administration or designee. If parents cannot be reached to provide alternate clothing, then more appropriate clothing will be supplied for the student so that they may continue the school day. Students will be asked to remove make-up. Additional steps may be taken by the administrator or designee depending on the severity and frequency of dress code violations (including, but not limited to parent conferences, reflective tasks, counseling referral, office check ins, loss of privileges, or suspension).
We appreciate the strong support from all parents in meeting the expected dress code. We intend to consistently and fairly enforce the dress code.
The principal may approve exceptions to the dress code for unusual situations or for specific events, such as spirit days.
