Kumeyaay Elementary School is located in the Tierrasanta Norte portion of San Diego. It is surrounded by middle-income, single-family houses, townhouses, and apartments. The school opened in September 1994. It consists of 28 individual permanent and temporary classrooms, a multipurpose room, a library/media center, and an office complex. The school has a large asphalt playground with three playground structures and ample play areas. In addition, the students have a playing field of nearly three acres for use during recess and physical education periods. The school is clean and well kept, creating a pleasant learning environment.

Each year, approximately 10 to 15 percent of our students join the Kumeyaay school community through the district's Open Enrollment Program and about 10 percent attend to receive special education instruction. Kumeyaays student population is very stable, with over 90 percent remaining for the entire school year. Twelve percent of the students are English learners, and about 20 percent come from homes where a language other than English is spoken. There are more than 13 languages spoken by students at Kumeyaay.

Kumeyaay Elementary School provides students with an enriched curriculum.This includes science and music instruction teachers funded by our foundation. On average, our teachers have 18 years of teaching experience, and three have been certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

Our mission is to work together to provide a positive, rich, and challenging instructional program that meets the needs of students of all ability levels, maintains high standards, and provides a wide range of educational experiences.
